Juniper Publishers - Evidence-Based Instructional Strategies in Learning Review

Image
Trends in Technical & Scientific Research Keywords: Germination; Plant density; Seed quality; Water regime Introduction Active learning instructional strategies include a wide range of activities that normally share some common elements that entail involving students in doing things and thinking about the things they are doing [1]. Essentially, active learning must engage the learners actively as failure to do so may lead to low rates of comprehension. At the high school level, learners have already developed different learning methodologies, but the teacher should not assume they will involve themselves in active learning without being guided effectively [1]. A robotics and computer programming teacher need to guide learners closely and actively so that they can grab applicable knowledge and skills in robotics as well as computer systems and programming. As a teacher of the said subject, learners cannot completely compreh...

Juniper Publishers - Solubility and Toxicity Level of Monascus Pigments

Image
Trends in Technical & Scientific Research Abstract Research on Monascus pigments (MPs) has been progressing very rapidly. The progresses include the discovery of new pigments and methods used for isolating and identifying the new pigments. Currently, nearly fifty-seven new pigments have been found as derivations of the six main pigments existed. The process of new pigments discovery is unable to separate from that of fermentation or isolation process. In several new pigments, there was no complete information relating to solubility and level of toxicity. This research covers data of all fifty-seven new pigments including color, molecular weight, water solubility, log Kow (octanol-water partition coefficient), and baseline toxicity level by Ecological Structure Activity Relationships (ECOSAR) Program. These results are expected to give more comprehensive data about Monascus pigments. Keywords: Monascus pigments; Solubility; Toxicity; Ecosar ...

Juniper Publishers - Evaluation of Antagonistic Effect of Trichoderma Harzianum against Fusarium oxysporum causal Agent of White Yam (Dioscorearotundata poir) Tuber Rot

Image
Trends in Technical & Scientific Research Abstract Studies were carried out on biological control using dual culture method to assess the potential of Trichoderma harzianum against Fusarium oxysporum, the causal agent of tuber dry rot disease of white yam in vitro. The rot-causing fungal organism was isolated from rotted yam tubers collected from different storage barns in Zaki-Biam, Benue State of Nigeria. The biological agent (T harzianum) was introduced at three different times (same time with the pathogen, 2 days before the inoculation of the pathogen and 2days after the inoculation of the pathogen). The experiment was conducted in the Advanced Plant Pathology Laboratory, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. The plates were incubated for 192 hours and measurements of mycelial radial growths were done at 24 hours intervals beginning from 72hour. The result of the in vitro interactions showed that the highest percentage growth inhibition of my...

Juniper publishers - Holo Study – Mixed Reality Framework for Industrial Engineering Education and Training

Image
Trends in Technical & Scientific Research Abstract  Nowadays, students struggle with understanding complex production processes and kinematics of machine tools and robots. While professors mostly have been dealing with these subjects for many years, students have only short time to be introduced to the complex nature of these topics. Mixed Reality allows students to engage hands-on in their subjects to reach new dimensions of understanding. Making challenging topics for students accessible by creating a more visual and tactile experience. The applications for entertainment and gaming are off the charts, but the implications for augmented reality in education and science are also undoubtedly massive. The project focusses on making education as interactive as possible, which helps both, teachers and students receive a unique tool for communicating phenomena and processes that are difficult to describe verbally. As a result, a complex knowledge becomes simple, an involvemen...

Juniper Publishers - Kidney Disease Predictor Based on Medical Decision Support System

Image
Trends in Technical & Scientific Research Abstract  Renal failure will increase mortality if untreated. When kidneys fail, the buildup of toxins occurs. Which affects the whole body and cause complications. There are numerous causes for renal failure, but we evaluate its main causes, which are Hypertension, Diabetes, Glomerulo Nephritis, Vesicoureteral Reflux and Polycystic Kidney Disease. Kidneys, in general, are very complicated organs. Nevertheless, most kidney diseases share a lot of presenting symptoms, which may lead to some delay in medical diagnosis. This study aims to develop a decision support system to predict the main cause of renal failure in patients using their memory, making quick predictions that may aid in the final diagnosis. A multilayer perceptron (MLP) feed-forward neural network was proposed in this research. The input layer of the proposed system included 32 input variables. An iterative process was used to determine the number of neurons a...
