Cultural Influences on Negotiations between the Chinese and the British in Higher Educational Settings in the UK - Juniper publishers

Image
Journal of Trends in Technical and Scientific Research Introduction This research was carried out to investigate the cultural differences between the Chinese and British people and how these affect negotiations between them in higher education settings at Sheffield Hallam University UK. A lot is documented in the literature from researches on culture and negotiation in the context of the Chinese and Westerners (Europeans and North Americans). This research is a contribution to knowledge on the influence of culture on negotiations between the Chinese people and the British in higher educational settings in particular and how they manage their cultural differences and the styles adopted during negotiations. The term ‘negotiation’ according to Thompson [1] refers to a joint decision-making process whereby two or more individuals with diverse interests agree on how to allocate resources. Mahbubani [2] asserts that negotiations have played a key role in internationa...

Effect of Operational Conditions on Performance of Deep Sand Filter in Turbidity Removal - Juniper publishers

Image
Journal of Trends in Technical and Scientific Research Abstract In this study, laboratory pilot plant was constructed to study the performance of deep sand filter in water treatment. Sand was used as a filtration media under different filtration rates ranged from 4 m/hr to 8 m/hr. Down flow was applied to the filter through sand media with size of 0.7-1.0 mm, while sand depth was changed from 80 cm to 140 cm. The used synthetic turbid water was prepared in different turbidity levels varying from 10 to 30 NTU. Aluminum sulfate (alum) was used as coagulant in different doses varied from 20 to 40 mg/l. Turbidity removal and head loss were investigated as functions of sand depth, filtration rate, alum dose and influent turbidity. From analysis of the experimental results, it was found that the changing of operational conditions (changing media depth, filtration rate, alum dose and influent turbidity) have significant impact on the turbidity removal efficiency, head...

Evidence-Based Instructional Strategies in Learning Review - Juniper publishers

Image
Journal of Trends in Technical and Scientific Research Introduction Active learning instructional strategies include a wide range of activities that normally share some common elements that entail involving students in doing things and thinking about the things they are doing [1]. Essentially, active learning must engage the learners actively as failure to do so may lead to low rates of comprehension. At the high school level, learners have already developed different learning methodologies, but the teacher should not assume they will involve themselves in active learning without being guided effectively [1]. A robotics and computer programming teacher need to guide learners closely and actively so that they can grab applicable knowledge and skills in robotics as well as computer systems and programming. As a teacher of the said subject, learners cannot completely comprehend without being involved in real work such as programming and coding. Robotics and com...

Plant Density and Irrigation Regime Have an Interactive Effect on Common Bean Seed Quality - Juniper publishers

Image
Journal of Trends in Technical and Scientific Research Abstract Dry beans ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are known to be a significant source of protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. However, poor access to improved quality seeds, water stress and poor agronomic practices have led to low productivity for smallholder farmers in South Africa. The study used three certified dry bean seed cultivars (Mtata, Malelani, and Gadra). A standard germination test, water activity and seed moisture content were determined each replicated three times. Pre and post-harvest germination tests were conducted simultaneously with Germination Velocity Index (GVI) and Mean Germination Time (MGT). A field trial was designed as a split plot where rain-fed and irrigation treatments were the main plots within which the three cultivars were planted at three densities (low, medium and high). Seed quality of the certified seed lot showed a significant difference between cultivars. Mtata had an av...
